What is the difference between my security
code and my unlock code?
Your security code is a 4-digit code programmed into your phone
by your dealer. Your security code is needed to access functions
such as setting Call Restrictions and turning on the Status
Monitor. A security code cannot be changed unless the phone
is reprogrammed.
Your unlock code is a 3-digit code also programmed into your
phone by your dealer. Enter this code to unlock the phone when
it is locked. To change your own unlock code, press "FCN"
+ "8" + "2" + (4-digit Security Code). Your
phone accesses the "Programmable Unlock Code" mode
and shows your current unlock code. If you want to change the
unit's unlock code, enter a new three digit code at this time
and press the "STO/END" key. The unlock code can be
changed even if the phone is locked.

What does the "NO SVC" indicator
in my display mean?
"NO SVC" (no service) indicates that the phone is
out of the cellular service area and cannot be used to place
or receive calls. Make sure the antenna is fully extended and,
if you are in a building, move to an area such as a window where
signal strength may be stronger. If "NO SVC" is still
displayed check that you're System A/B Select is set correctly.
STANDBY OPERATION ONLY - Each cellular service area usually
has two cellular service providers. One is the "A"
system and the other being the "B" system. You should
check with your cellular service provider to find out if your
system is the "A" or the "B" system. Press
"FCN" + "32" to access the "System
A/B Selection" mode. The display will show the current
system preference selected. Press the "*" or "#"
key to switch to a new system preference. Press the "CLR"
key to clear the display.
NOTE: If "ROAM INHIBIT" was selected during the NAM
programming, "FCN / 32" will not be active.
-
How do I switch between NAMs in my phone?
STANDBY OPERATION ONLY - During your unit's programming, either
Single or Dual NAM was selected depending if one or two phone
numbers were programmed in your phone. Press "FCN"
+ "12" to enter Multi NAM Selection Mode. The LCD
shows the current setting. If another NAM has been programmed
into your phone, it may be selected by pressing the "*"
or "#" key.
-
Why does "ROAM" appear in the display?
Your Home System is the system in your Home Cellular Region
that provided your phone number. Your Home System is called
either System A or System B. "ROAM" indicates that
your phone is NOT operating on your Home System.
"ROAM" will be displayed steadily when you are outside
of your Home Cellular Region and you are operating on the same
system (A or B) as your Home System. "ROAM" will flash
whenever you are operating on the alternate system, both inside
and outside your Home Cellular Region.
"ROAM" may flash occasionally in your home area when
your Home System has a weak signal and the alternate system
has a strong signal. If "ROAM" flashes almost constantly,
check that you're A/B System Selection is set correctly. "FCN"
+ "32"

Why can't I place calls on my phone when the
signal is strong and my phone is not locked?
Your phone may have a call restriction set. To view the current
setting of this feature, press "FCN" + "8"
+ "1" + (4-digit security code). The following four
levels can be selected by pressing "*" or "#".
No Restriction: All call procedures are available.
Local Only: Long distance calls and operator calls are restricted.
Only local calls (a seven digit telephone number) and toll free
calls (1-800
) can be made.
Recall 1-99: You can only make calls by "recalling"
numbers from any of the 99 memory locations.
Receive Only: You may not make calls. You may only receive calls.
To exit press the "STO/END" key.
NOTE: Emergency calls to "911" are always allowed
during any restriction level (even when the phone is locked).

I can barely see my display, what's wrong
with my phone?
The model 4500 has a feature called the LCD VIEW ANGLE. This
feature will adjust the angle of the display so that it can
be viewed easier in different lighting situations. To access
this feature, hold down the "FCN" key for more than
one second. You will see the current setting in the LCD.
The LCD View Angle can be controlled by pressing the "*"
or "#" keys. Temperature changes may require you to
adjust the viewing angle of the LCD and may affect the LCD color.
This is normal. To exit, press the "STO"/END"
key. Your selected view angle is saved when your phone is turned
off.
-
Some of my keys have stopped working, what
could be the problem?
If you have experienced incomplete keypad depression, some number
keys not working, your phone may have an internal component
problem. The unit must be sent to a Service Center for evaluation
and possible repair.
-
The person that I'm talking to can't hear
me but I can hear them fine, am I doing something wrong?
You may have activated the MUTE option by mistake. If the MUTE
feature is active, you will see an "M" on the bottom
of the display. To deactivate this feature simply hold down
the "FCN" key for more than one second. If you are
still experiencing a problem, your phone may have an internal
component problem. The unit must be sent to a Service Center
for evaluation and possible repair.
-
My phone answers calls by itself it never
did that before. What's wrong?
There is a feature in your phone called, "Automatic Answer".
When this feature is "ON" and there is an incoming
call, the phone will automatically answer the call after three
rings. This is a safety feature when using the Hands Free Adapter.
In the Standby mode, press "FCN" + "35"
to activate the "Automatic Answer ON/OFF" mode. You
will see the current setting in the LCD. Press the "*"
or the "#" key to turn this feature on or off. Press
the "CLR" key to exit this mode.
NOTE: This is not an answering machine feature. It is an automatic
method of pressing the "SEND" key to answer the phone.
If the unit is "ON" (standby mode) and this feature
is "ON", incoming calls will be received as if someone
was present to answer the call, resulting in accrued airtime
charges.
-
My phone makes calls by itself, what's going
on?
Your phone has a feature called "Automatic Redial".
When the cellular system is very busy, this feature will automatically
try to access the cellular system. With this feature your unit
will attempt to redial every 3 seconds for a total of 10 tries.
To access this feature press "FCN" + "3"
+ "1" then press the "*" or "#"
key to turn this feature on or off. Pressing the "CLR"
key will return you to the "FCN/3" display of the
Primary menu.
